Loss of a legend

World renowned opera singer Luciano Pavarotti died this week from pancreatic cancer. He was 71.

I can still remember a few years ago when I saw Mr. Pavarotti perform at a concert in New York. He gave one of the most memorable and resonating performances I've ever heard from anybody. His rich tenor voice struck a major chord with me (no pun intended); even when I couldn't understand what he was saying. I also remember that there wasn't a dry eye in the building. His voice dug deep; all the way down to the pit of the soul.

There aren't too many people with that kind of gift.

i'm sorry for the world of opera on his loss. i never could get into opera too much. so, since there wasn't a dry eye in the place, does that include your eyes? i hope this sounds more compassionate than my comment regarding the basketball game.

@ Sylvia: Truth be told, you won't find any opera music in my iPod either. But I have an appreciation for how profound it is; especially with Pavarotti.

Also, I think you'd be interested to know that I manned up and held back the tears. But I let out a good cry after the game (it was a football game, by the way. But close enough...)

Opera is not my thing, but I can appreciate what a gift and talent Pavarotti had.

His legend will long outlive his earthly span.

Hey Dre,
All I can say is; Now's my chance to fill the void in the opera world. (OOPS, I just remembered I can't sing opera, Damn!) Seriously, Pavarotti was a very gifted singer and will be missed. God just got himself a incredible Tenor for the Heavenly Choir. R.I.P. L.P.

I'm the same way. I'm not huge into things that I can't understand. But talent and inspiration, fortunately are universal languages.

@ Hippie: "I just remembered I can't sing opera"

Dude, why sing opera when you can throw down like this?

Andre, I never had a chance to see Pavarotti perform in person, but I'm sure it would've been great! He was an amazing talent.

I never followed his career much but I do know he had a powerful voice. He did, however, find his way onto my iPod somehow.

@ Megan: I only saw him the one time and it was a performance I still remember as if it just happened. The dude really was that good.

@ Dave: LOL @ how he magically found his way onto your iPod.

Welcome aboard, my friend. I'll have to stop by your place pretty soon.
