The Wedding Crasher

Food for thought: While other people's children continue to suffer in the streets of Iraq, the President's child is getting married.

Huh.

For Jenna's sake, I hope that the folks who orchestrated this war aren't responsible for being her wedding planners.

I guess that Jenna's wedding and the Iraq war will share at least one similarity: Bush will "give away" a child.

LOL @ both of you. Sadly, it's true.

Hey Dre,
Every time I see that girl she's drinking. But I guess if I had Bush for a dad I'd develop a drinking problem too.

So is she not supposed to get married? What's the correlation?

@ Curious: I thought the point was pretty obvious: while the President is creating and sustaining policies that contribute to death of thousands of Americans (most of whom are somebody else's children), his own children are enjoying the fruits of being in a privileged family. If one or both of the Bush twins had to serve in this war, it would be over tomorrow.

On follow up to that point, I always get amused when politicians justify this war because of the "brave sacrifices" that many young American soliders make. Sacrifices they themselves; nor their families) will ever make.

Precisely. Bush and his loyal followers will continue to call this war necessary. Yet, none of these jokers or their families consider it important enough to join themselves.

I've got a couple of issues with FDR, but when he led this country into war, his sons enlisted (and actually saw combat) in the Allied forces and his wife worked on army bases for wounded soliders and their families. The only time you've seen the Bush twins serve in the community was when they were serving out punishments for underaged drinking. What has Laura Bush done? What has Dubya done? It's funny how "important" a war is when it's somebody else's friends and family dying.

It's interesting to me that even George, Sr. served as an enlisted man. Meanwhile the draft dodger is the one talking all the mess about how "resolute" we are. What a joke.

It's my view that the recruiting practices (i.e. targeting primarily the young & poor) is less-than-honorable, & I'd like to see it change. However, w/ that said, I've got to agree w/ "just curious..." in that Jenna's wedding is a poor example of "enjoying the fruits of being in a privileged family." I don't see getting married as being in the context that you're portraying it to be.

@ Saved Sinner: There have been many military veterans engaged in American politics. Oftentimes, it's their very stepping-stone into politics.

Thanks N, that's the point that I was trying to make. Would it be better if she waited until the war was over until she got married?

If I'm reading correctly into the post and the preceding comments, it sounds like what's being said is that if this war is indeed "vital" and is worht "sacrifice", the burden of the war should be shared by all -- especially those who make the most noise in support of it. Its not fair that Mr. Bush's daughers are living a normal, non-sacrificial life as he creates a war environment while somebody else's child is losing a limb or a life because of that same war mongering
